Laurel & Hardy Fans at Ilfracombe House Hotel this weekend

Saps at Sea (Laurel & Hardy fans) will be celebrating their 100th Meeting in July 2007.

As a special celebration, we have arranged a Laurel and Hardy weekend and cordially invite Sons, friends and Laurel and Hardy fans to join us for a fun weekend. This will be an inexpensive weekend, with an emphasis on laughter and friendship.

 Saturday 7th July 2007
During the day, Sons can travel to Southend, see a little bit of our town, perhaps go on the World's longest pier, have something to eat and maybe imbibe in a little mountain water before our evening gathering.
From 6pm until midnight, we will hold The 100th Saps Meeting at the Clarence Hall, Clarence Street in Central Southend . The evening will consist of a variety of live entertainment with a Laurel and Hardy theme.

+films+cold buffet+raffle+bar+surprises          A GREAT EVENING GUARANTEED

Sunday 8th July 2007
After breakfast, Sons will travel by coach to Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. We will be helping the railway celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Laurel and Hardy's visit in 1947 and we will have our own Laurel and Hardy look-a-likes as we travel on this 13 mile miniature railway in Kent
Upon return to Southend, some Sons will saying their 'Goodbye' but for local Sons and those staying longer we are planning a meal together and an evening of socialising with a dash of Laurel and Hardy fun

All the bookings have been arranged with Ilfracombe House Hotel in Southend on Sea for Fri-Sat 7-8 July.

"we visit s/end every year and would only go to this hotel, the location is just right, close to the pavillion theatre, seafront 2 minutes walk(well down hill perhaps 7 minutes on the way back)but far enough away from the town centre noise, good tradional food with a hearty breakfast,as we are regulars we knowwhat to expect" (99454638)

+ ideal location for southend activities,we were there for the air show just walked across the road for a brilliant observation spot, liked the idea of the open air bar &bar b q=shame about the weather
- great view but the chairs are so low you cannot enjoy the scenery sitting down, off street parking

"My room was very spacious and bright. The shower was easy to get at a nice temperature and good wardrobe space. There was limited parking. Its one block from the sea front and a nice quiet area away from any late night noise."
+ The staff were very friendly and the room was very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and there was a great selection of food to choose from.
- There was little to dislike during my stay.

bathroom was a very good size and nicely modernised. Restaurant was attractive and comfortable.
+ Room was adequate for our needs.
- Corridor and doors need desperate modernisation as they lowered the standard of the hotel

"I have stayed at this hotel on three different occasions and have had good service at all times. Staff are friendly and helpful." (99507059)
+ Has a friendly atmosphere staff are very helpful.
- Car park is a bit on the small side. It's still better than some other hotels around them with no car parking at all like the Tower and Westcliff.

"Found the hotel comfortable, reasonably priced, extremely well maintained and located in a really nice convenient area. The room had a hairdryer, ironing board/iron and a mini fridge. Lots of wardrobe space with plenty of hangers and there was an easy to regulate, powerful shower located in the extremely clean en-suite bathroom. Buffet breakfast was enjoyed in a lovely sunny, bright room and was served until 11.00am so you could have a nice lie in! Will definitely use this hotel again."

+ The character of the age of the property had been maintained, whilst providing all the modern conveniences and remaining comfortable.
- Nothing to think of.
